The organisers of the 52nd ISI Session will offer an inspiring and relaxing social programme for the participants and their families. An important part of the social programme of any conference are the occasions where the participants can meet old friends and make new ones. The organisers of the 52nd ISI Session will schedule a suitable amount of such occasions in the programme. Please note that a professional congress organiser, CONGREX / Blue & White Conferences will be in charge of reservations for the social events. For cancellation terms, see 4.10.
The Opening Ceremony of the 52nd ISI Session will be held on Tuesday, August 10 at 16:00 at Finlandia Hall. This event is included in the registration fee.
After the Opening Ceremony, all registered participants and accompanying persons are invited to a reception hosted by the Chairman of the Organising Committee at Finlandia Hall. This event is included in the registration fee.
On Wednesday, August 11, the City of Helsinki hosts a reception at the City Hall (address: Pohjoisesplanadi 11 13) for all registered participants and accompanying persons. This event is included in the registration fee.
Registered participants and accompanying persons are invited to attend a concert of classical music on Friday evening, August 13 at the Church in the Rock (Temppeliaukio Church). Part of the programme will comprise music by the famous Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Early advance registration is desirable, since only a limited number of tickets are available. This event is included in the registration fee.

The sea fortress of Suomenlinna was built in the 18th and 19th centuries on rocky islands in the harbour of Helsinki. It is a cultural treasure, combining colourful history, beautiful nature and living cityscape. In 1991, UNESCO included Suomenlinna in its List of World Heritage sites.
Departure from the Congress site by bus to the Market Square and from there by boat (approx. 15 minutes) to Suomenlinna Fortress. You will have an opportunity for a walking tour amidst the forts and ramparts. The tour will be guided in English. Buffet lunch will be served. Musical performances and exciting activities for the participants will also be in the programme. Return by ferry to the Market Square.
Sunday, August 15, is reserved for optional excursions. Participants and their families will have several options to acquaint themselves with Finland outside Helsinki, find out about life in small towns and rural areas, as well as explore Finnish nature and culture during these excursions. Early advance registration is desirable, since only a limited number of tickets are available. Price: not included in the registration fee.
Please find below excursions to be organised on Sunday, August 15, 1999. All excursions depart from the western parking place of Finlandia Hall in the morning and return to Finlandia Hall in the afternoon. A more detailed timetable will be available upon registration on-site.
A farewell party will be held on Tuesday, August 17 at the Opera House. The Opera House is located in the immediate vicinity of Finlandia Hall. Tickets for the Farewell Party can be ordered on the Registration Form. Price: FIM 350 / person
