The social programme of the conference includes a concert at the Temppeliaukio church and excursions to the Suomenlinna Fortress and the Turku archipelago. Conference guests can also make trips in Finland or the neighbouring areas before or after the conference. Preliminary bookings indicate that tours to St. Petersburg and Lapland, in particular, are popular.
The statistical world conference is arranged every second year. The previous conference was held in Istanbul, the next one will take place in Seoul and the 2003 conference in Berlin. The future host cities will introduce themselves in an exhibition at the Helsinki conference.
