The inquiry on regional outstanding credit requests information about credit granted by region divided by borrower sector and industry as well as purpose of use of credit. The statistics on regional outstanding credit is based on the Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council on the joint Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS). The data are collected once a year and concern the situation at the turn of the year. A machine-language report made with an Excel workbook is submitted to Statistics Finland via an encrypted email system.
Data on regional outstanding credit are collected annually from banks, other monetary financial institutions practising financial intermediation, insurance corporations, other financial intermediaries, the state and social security funds.
The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential.
As from the beginning of 2008, the purpose of use classification has been harmonized with the purpose of use classification used by the Bank of Finland. As regards regional outstanding credit, this affect only the definition of housing credits.
