The statistics on the finance of housing corporations describe the financial statements of housing companies . The statistics measure the expenditure and income of these corporations. The statistics contain data classified according to area, type of house, year of construction and area. The statistics are produced yearly. The data on housing companies are based on a sample survey where the data needed for the compilation of the statistics are collected from the managers of the housing corporations selected to the sample. The managers can supply the data on the housing corporations they represent to Statistics Finland either by mail with a paper form or electronically via the Internet.
The sample for the statistics on housing corporations is drawn from the real estate register of the Tax Administration. The population consists of around 75,000 corporations (in 2009) but the actual sampling frame includes only those corporations where the combined area of residential dwellings is at least 700 m2 (blocks of flats) or 500 m2 (terraced houses). The actual sampling frame contains around 35,000 corporations (in 2009). The annual sample size is around 2,500, which means that the coverage of the sample is about seven per cent of the population. The data supply obligation of housing corporations is based on the Finnish Statistics Act (280/2004).
