The statistics on the finance of housing corporations describe the financial statements of housing corporations. The statistics measure the expenditure and income of these corporations. The statistics contain data on the area, type of dwelling, year of construction and floor area.
The data on housing companies are based on a sample survey where the data needed for the compilation of statistics are collected from the managers of the housing companies included in the sample. The managers can supply the data on the companies they represent either with a web questionnaire or with a paper form questionnaire. The inquiry concerns housing companies with a combined area of residential dwellings of at least 700 m2 (blocks of flats) or 500 m2 (terraced houses).
The sample for the statistics is drawn from the real estate register of the Tax Administration. In 2012, the population consisted of some 80,000 companies of which roughly one-half (40,000 companies) met the requirement for the combined area of residential dwellings. The annual sample size is approximately 2,500 housing corporations.Housing corporations' obligation to provide data is based on the Statistics Act (280/2004).The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential and use them only for statistical purposes.
