Statistics on the finances of municipalities/joint municipal boards, part II

Description

In part II of the inquiry on statistics on the finances of municipalities and joint municipal boards data are collected from municipalities and joint municipal boards about their activity and investment expenditure and income specified by function and by income and expenditure item. The inquiry also contains data on separate financial statements of municipal enterprises following the so-called municipal enterprise model, consolidated balance sheets of municipalities/joint municipal boards, some activity data, and data collected for the state subsidy system on the finances of municipalities and joint municipal boards.

The data are collected from all of Finland's municipalities and joint municipal boards primarily with a web collection form through the data collection service of Itella Corporation. The data can also be submitted with conventional paper forms in case it is not possible to use the web form. In addition, a diskette form can be used to assist in data processing of data on the operational economy and investment. The data should be supplied by the end of April following the statistical year. The data from the municipalities and joint municipal boards of the Åland Islands are collected and processed by Ålands statistik- och utredningsbyrå.

Target group

The data for part II of the inquiry on statistics on the finances of municipalities and joint municipal boards are collected from all of Finland’s municipalities and joint municipal boards.

Data protection

The collection of data is based on the Statistics Act (280/2004). By virtue of Section 14 of the Statistics Act, notwithstanding the provisions on secrecy, local government authorities are obliged to provide Statistics Finland with data on their finances, products, locations of activities, as well as with data on the staff and other resources required in their activities.

Unit-level data can be processed at Statistics Finland only by those employees participating in the compilation of the statistics in question. The data are protected against inappropriate use in accordance with the data protection regulations of Statistics Finland.
