The producer price indices for services measure development in the prices of the services enterprise produce for each other and for the public sector. Each individual industry index describes the average price development in that industry.
For calculations of the producer price indices for services, data are collected from the data supplier enterprises on their services, service prices, turnover and its breakdown between different service categories. Depending on the service industry, the data suppliers are selected by applying either PPS (Probability Proportional to Size) sampling or purposive selection, or by combining purposive selection and probability sampling. The collection of the data is based on Section 14 of the Statistics Act (280/2004) and on the EU regulation (1158/2005) concerning short-term statistics. The producer price indices for services are needed for monitoring prices in service industries, compilation of national accounts and for reporting to the EU. The data can be submitted on paper forms, or by telefax or email. The data are treated as strictly confidential at Statistics Finland. Statistics Finland does not publish indices from which development in the prices of an individual enterprise could be determined. The data are collected from enterprises. The sample is based on the Business Register of Statistics Finland.
Data collected for statistical purposes must be kept confidential by law.
