General information about the data collection
The inquiry for industrial establishments annually collects data on industrial establishments' breakdown of income and expenditure, current assets and investments for compiling regional and industrial statistics on manufacturing and other structural business and economic statistics. The collected data are also used in the calculations of national accounts, regional accounts and financial accounts, and as research material in Statistics Finland's Research Laboratory. Industry includes mining and quarrying, manufacturing, as well as electricity, gas and water supply, and sewerage and waste management.
A majority of the data is collected from the business taxation file. The data are supplemented with Statistics Finland's own data collection.
The data can be transmitted either electronically or on paper forms. The data collection is started yearly in March.
The European Union's regulations require the collection of the data on the activities of industrial establishments (Council Regulation No 295/2008 concerning structural business statistics and Regulation (EC) No 2223/96 on the European system of national and regional accounts in the Community).
Enterprises' obligation to provide data is based on the Finnish Statistics Act.
