The Business Register inquires yearly data from single-establishment enterprises. The data are collected for maintaining the Business Register. The questionnaire is sent during January, March, May and October. The responses can be submitted on an electronic questionnaire.
Approximately 12,000 enterprises per year belong to the Business Register inquiry for single-establishment enterprises or com-munities. As a rule, enterprises or com-munities with over 20 staff-years, enterpri-ses involved in mergers and a number of growth businesses are selected for the in-quiry. In addition, smaller enterprises or communities whose data we wish to update and enterprises or communities where there have been indications of changed data through other statistics are inquired.
The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential. According to Section 18 of the Statistics Act, certain Business Register data are public. For enterprises and corporations public are data concerning the name and address, Business ID, industry, legal form, number of personnel, size category of turnover and personnel, and for establishments the name, address, industry and size category of personnel. According to the Council Regulation (EEC) No 177/2008 on business registers, Statistics Finland is obliged to maintain a business register for statistical purposes.
