<description>According to the Business Register of Statistics Finland, 318,951 enterprises operated in Finland in 2010. Their personnel totalled 1,444,000 and their turnover amounted to EUR 358.9 billion. The number of enterprises was 1,700 lower and the number of their personnel 3,400 lower than in the year before. Their turnover grew by seven per cent, or by EUR 22.7 billion.</description>

<title>The turnover of foreign affiliates grew in 2010</title>

<description>The total turnover of foreign affiliates located in Finland was EUR 71 billion in 2010. These enterprises employed 215,000 persons (FTE). Compared with the year before, the turnover grew by around five per cent, while the personnel declined by the same amount. The personnel diminished particularly in manufacturing and in administrative and support service activities. This is based on the most recent data released by Statistics Finland.</description>

<title>Finnish enterprises around the world: nearly 5,000 affiliates in 120 countries in 2009</title>

<description>Finnish enterprises had business activity in affiliates located in 120 countries in 2009. Measured by the number of personnel, the activity in affiliates abroad concentrated in Europe and Asia. The personnel abroad totalled over 566,000, of whom good one-third worked in old EU countries, one-fifth in Asia and Oceania and one-fifth in new EU countries. Examined by country, the numbers of personnel were the highest in Sweden, Russia, China and Germany. These data were produced by Statistics Finland, and they are based on an inquiry of enterprises.</description>

<description>In 2009 the number of enterprises and turnover declined for the first time over the 2000s. The number of enterprises went down by just 270, but their turnover contracted by as much as 15 per cent, or by EUR 60 billion. Personnel decreased by four per cent, by 54,810 persons. According to the Business Register of Statistics Finland, 320,682 enterprises operated in Finland. They provided jobs for 1,447,403 persons as either employees or self-employed persons. The total turnover of the enterprises was EUR 336.2 billion.</description>

<title>The turnover of foreign affiliates located in Finland fell in 2009</title>

<description>According to Statistics Finland, the total turnover of foreign affiliates located in Finland was approximately EUR 67 billion and they employed nearly 225,000 persons in 2009. Compared with 2008, the turnover went down by around 24 per cent and the number of personnel by about seven per cent. The turnover accounted for about 20 per cent of the turnover of all enterprises operating in Finland and the share of the personnel was 15.5 per cent. In terms of both turnover and number of persons employed, the most significant owner country was Sweden.</description>

<description>Measured by the number of personnel, the activity of Finnish enterprises in affiliates abroad was concentrated in EU countries. In 2008, a total of 575,000 persons were working in Finnish affiliates abroad. One half of them were working in EU countries: nearly two fifths in old EU countries and one fifth in new EU countries. Asia and Oceania have caught up with new EU countries as one fifth of the personnel of Finnish affiliates were located there. The data were produced by Statistics Finland, and they are based on an inquiry addressed to enterprises.</description>

In the preliminary annual data concerning the whole of 2009, the number of enterprise openings still indicates decline in all regions. Looking at the whole country, there were 3,424 fewer enterprise openings than in the previous year. By contrast, the number of enterprise closures has continued to fall (-1,232).</description>

The rise amounted to 5.4 per cent from the corresponding quarter of 2008. Examined by legal form, there were nearly 8.6 per cent fewer openings of enterprises of the corporate form of natural person and 14 per cent fewer openings of enterprises of the corporate form of limited company than in the respective time period of the previous year.</description>
