In the third quarter of 2012, the number of enterprise closures was 2.5 per cent higher than in the corresponding quarter of the year before. <description>According to Statistics Finland's data, Finnish enterprises had business activity in 4,617 affiliates located in 119 countries in 2011. Measured by the number of personnel, the activity in affiliates abroad concentrated in Europe and Asia. The personnel abroad totalled over 585,000, of whom one-third were working in EU 15 countries, nearly one-quarter in Asia and Oceania and good one-sixth in EU 27 countries. Examined by country, the numbers of personnel were the highest in Sweden, China, Russia and India. These data derive from data collected from enterprises.</description>

<description>The total turnover of foreign affiliates located in Finland was EUR 76 billion in 2011. These enterprises employed 221,000 persons (full time equivalent, FTE). Compared with the year before, the turnover grew by around seven per cent. The number of personnel increased as well, by some three per cent from 2010. Foreign companies employ people particularly in manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, administrative and support service activities, and information and communication activities. This is based on the most recent data released by Statistics Finland.</description>

<description>According to the Business Register of Statistics Finland, 322,232 enterprises operated in Finland in 2011. These enterprises employed 1,486,000 persons as wage or salary earners or entrepreneurs and generated EUR 385.2 billion in turnover. There were one per cent, or 3,300 more enterprises, and three per cent more employees, that is 42,100 persons, than in the previous year. Turnover grew by seven per cent, as was also the case in the year before, and the increase amounted to EUR 26.3 billion.</description>

<description>According to Statistics Finland, the total turnover of foreign affiliates located in Finland was approximately EUR 67 billion and they employed nearly 225,000 persons in 2009. Compared with 2008, the turnover went down by around 24 per cent and the number of personnel by about seven per cent. The turnover accounted for about 20 per cent of the turnover of all enterprises operating in Finland and the share of the personnel was 15.5 per cent. In terms of both turnover and number of persons employed, the most significant owner country was Sweden.</description>
