<title>Students in apprenticeship training number 59 700 in 2010</title>

<description>According to Statistics Finland, 59,700 students attended apprenticeship training leading to a qualification or degree during calendar year 2010. The number of students was 10 per cent lower than in the previous year. Thirty-nine per cent of the students attended training for an initial vocational qualification, 33 per cent for a further vocational qualification and 28 per cent for a specialist vocational qualification. The shares of men and women among the students were almost equal. New students numbered 21 700. Of the students, 14 300 completed an entire qualification. Of the completed qualifications, 42 per cent were initial vocational qualifications, 32 per cent further vocational qualifications and 26 per cent specialist vocational qualifications. The shares of men and women among completers of a qualification were equal. These data have been collected from the organisers of apprenticeship training.</description>

<description>According to Statistics Finland, 86,400 students participated in preparatory education for a skills examination during calendar year 2010. The number of students was 2 per cent up on the previous year. Forty-eight per cent of the students attended training for an initial vocational qualification, 44 per cent for further vocational qualification and 8 per cent for a specialist vocational qualification. Fifty-four per cent of the students were women. New students numbered 43,700. Of the students, 18,900 completed an entire qualification. Of the completed qualifications, 43 per cent were initial vocationa qualifications, 49 per cent further vocational qualifications and 8 per cent specialist vocational qualifications. Sixty per cent of the qualifiers were women. These data have been collected from educational institutions. Apprenticeship training is not included in these data.</description>

The largest number, or 43 per cent, of the qualifications were attained in the field of technology and transport. The next largests numbers were attained in the fields of welfare, health and physical exercise (15 per cent) tourism, catering and economics (12 per cent) and business economics and administration (10 per cent). The shares of other fields of education were below 10 per cent.</description>

Forty-three per cent of the students attended training for an initial vocational qualification, 32 per cent for a further vocational qualification and 25 per cent for a specialist vocational qualification. Less than a half of the students, 47 per cent, were women. New students numbered 20,100. Of the students, 14,300 completed an entire qualification. Of the completed qualifications, 39 per cent were initial vocational qualifications, 37 per cent further vocational qualifications and 24 per cent specialist vocational qualifications. Fifty per cent of the qualifiers were women. These data have been collected from the organisers of apprenticeship training.</description>
