<title>Sauli Niinistö and Pekka Haavisto made it to the second round of the Presidential election 2012</title>

<description>In the first round of the Presidential election, the two candidates who received the highest numbers of votes were Sauli Niinistö and Pekka Haavisto. Sauli Niinistö, the candidate of the National Coalition Party received 1,131,254 votes, thus winning the first round with 37.0 per cent of all votes cast. Pekka Haavisto, the candidate of the Green League was second in the first round of the Presidential election with 18.8 per cent of all votes cast. He gained 574,275 votes. The difference between the two candidates with most votes cast was 556,979 votes and 18.2 percentage points.</description>

<title>Confirmed election result. Second round. Tarja Halonen was re-elected President in the Presidential election 2006</title>

<description>In the second round of the Presidential election Tarja Halonen defeated her rival candidate Sauli Niinistö. The total number of votes cast for Halonen was 1,630,980, that is, 51.8 per cent of all votes cast. Sauli Niinistö, the runner-up, received 1,518,333 votes, or 48.2 per cent of all votes, which means that the support for Halonen was 3.6 percentage points higher than that for Sauli Niinistö. The election result was quite even; in numbers, the difference was a total of 112,647 votes. Around 893,900 votes remained to be divided as a legacy from the first round. Compared with the first round of the election, the proportion of Niinistö grew by 792,467 votes (by 24.1 percentage points) and that of Halonen by 233,950 votes (by 5.5 percentage points).</description>
