<title>Debts grew more than income in 2010</title>

<description>During a decade, household-dwelling units debts have gone up by clearly more than their income. In 2010, household-dwelling units with debt rate of indebtedness, i.e. ratio of debts to disposable income, was 156 per cent, having been 108 per cent in 2002. In 2009, the rate of indebtedness was 153 per cent. Outstanding debts of household-dwelling units with debt grew by 4.9 per cent and their disposable monetary income by 2.6 per cent in 2010. Except for the youngest ones, household-dwelling units rate of indebtedness rose from the previous year in all age groups.</description>

<title>Debts grew by five per cent in 2009</title>

<description>From 2002 to 2009, household-dwelling units debts grew by 90 per cent in real terms. At the same time housing loans grew by 110 per cent. In 2009, housing loans accounted for 71 per cent of household-dwelling units' debts, while in 2002 their share was 65 per cent. Last year, household-dwelling units outstanding debts totalled EUR 95 billion, of which EUR 68 billion were housing loans. There were 1.5 million indebted households and their average debt was EUR 63,780. From the previous year household-dwelling units debts grew by 5.3 per cent but interest expenditure went down by one-third.</description>

<title>Debts grew by 7.7 per cent in 2008</title>

<description>The rate at which household-dwelling units became indebted slowed down somewhat in 2008; yet their debts grew by nearly eight per cent from the previous year. There were 1,470,000 household-dwelling units with outstanding debts, or good two per cent more than in the year before. Household dwelling units debts have grown by 81 per cent in real terms since 2002. They grew most in 2005, when the total debts of household dwelling units increased by 14.7 per cent and their housing loans went up by 17.5 per cent.</description>

<title>Average debt per household-dwelling unit EUR 58,540</title>

<description>Fifty-eight per cent of household-dwelling units had outstanding debts in 2007. The total number of indebted households was 1,453,000, which was around 150,000 higher than in 2002. Their debts totalled EUR 84 billion, or averaged EUR 58,540 per indebted household-dwelling unit. The number of indebted household-dwelling units has gone up by 12 per cent and the average debt by 66 per cent since 2002. Over the examined time period the loan stock of household-dwelling units has been growing annually by 12 to 15 per cent. The biggest increase of 14.7 per cent was recorded in 2005. In 2007, the stock of debts only grew by 11.6 per cent.</description>
