<description>According to Statistics Finland, a total of 29,100 university degrees were attained in Finland in 2010. Of the degrees attained in 2010, 12,400 were lower university degrees and 14,400 higher university degrees. Completed degrees at the doctorate level numbered 1,500. Foreign citizens attained 1,200 degrees. Women completed 58 per cent of all university degrees.</description>

<description>According to Statistics Finland, a total of 169,400 students attended university education leading to a degree in 2010. This is 0,5 per cent more than in the year before. In 2010 the highest numbers of students were studying in the fields of science and technology, natural sciences and humanities. The proportion of women of all students attending education leading to a degree was 54 per cent and their proportion of new students was 55 per cent.</description>

<description>According to Statistics Finland, a total of 23,800 university degrees were attained in Finland in 2009. The number of university degrees completed returned in 2009 close to the level of 2007. The number of degrees attained in 2008 was exceptionally high (38,200). The record growth in the number of degrees in 2008 was explained by the ending of the transition period connected to the university degree revision in most fields of education in summer 2008. Of the degrees attained in 2009, 10,800 were lower university degrees and 10,500 higher university degrees. Completed degrees at the doctorate level numbered 1,600. The number of degrees attained by foreign citizens was 1,100. Women completed 62 per cent of all university degrees.</description>

<title>A record number of university degrees were completed in 2008</title>

<description>According to Statistics Finland, a total of 38,200 university degrees were completed in Finland in 2008. The number of degrees was 71 per cent higher than in the year before. The rise in the number of degrees is explained by the university degree revision. The transition period of the degree revision ended in summer 2008, apart from in the fields of technology and medicine, where it ends in 2010. The number of completed degrees rose both at the lower and the higher degree level. The number of lower level tertiary degrees was 13,900 and that of higher level tertiary degrees 21,800. Completed degrees at the doctorate level numbered 1,500. Their number was unchanged from the previous year. Women completed 64 per cent of all university degrees.</description>

A total of 14 per cent of all students were studying at the doctorate level of attending specialist training of doctors.</description>
