The activities of Statistics Finland and the National Statistical Service are based on the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics adopted by the United Nations Statistical Commission. The principles of the European Statistical System have been defined in the EU Statistics Act along the same lines as adopted by the United Nations. The Finnish Statistics Act is based on these principles.
The Declaration on Professional Ethics of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) sets out the ethical obligations all persons working in the field of statistics have towards society, data users, funding providers, co-workers and data suppliers.
Statistics Finland's Guidelines on Professional Ethics are based on this ISI Declaration and reflect its principles from the perspective of the Finnish National Statistical Service.
In its general quality management Statistics Finland applies the principles of the European Foundation for Quality Management model and in the management of the quality of its statistics the European Statistics Code of Practice.
Statistics Finland's customer service principles demand that data users are heard and served efficiently.
