Turnover in service industries increased by 6.6 per cent year-on-year in November to January

According to Statistics Finland, turnover in service industries grew by 6.6 per cent in November to January from the corresponding period of the year before. Among the industries, administrative and support services activities (+11%) and professional, scientific and technical activities (+10.1%) still developed most strongly. The development of information and communication and transportation and storage rose most from one year back. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

The industry of administrative and support service activities was boosted most by employment activities (+18.2%). The growth in security and investigation activities slowed down to 8.8 per cent, while in the period one year ago, the growth amounted to 13.6 per cent. Professional, scientific and technical activities were boosted by other professional, scientific and technical activities (+16.6 %). Information and communication grew most swiftly on account of computer programming, consultancy and related activities (11.2%).

The industry of transportation and storage grew by 3.7 per cent from the corresponding period of one year ago. Of its sub-industries, warehousing and support activities for transportation reached a growth of six per cent.

The main industry other service activities still developed slowly. Of its sub-industries, the repair of computers and personal and household goods continued to fall (-12.7%).

Changes in the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax data do not have an effect on the data of turnover indices for January 2017

The effects of the changes in the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax data have been analysed in Statistics Finland’s turnover indices. Based on the analyses, no significant changes for statistics production were observed in the value added tax reporting of enterprises. More about this under Changes in these statistics .
