More than half of employees participated in employer-sponsored training
The majority of education or training related to work or occupation was sponsored by employers. In 2000 over one half of employed persons, or one million, attended such training.
The larger the enterprise, the higher number of the staff took part in training. In large enterprises with at least 500 employees the proportion of those having participated in employer-sponsored training was almost two times as high as in small enterprises of fewer than 50 employees.

Information technology was the subject of study for almost one quarter of those who participated in employer-sponsored training in the preceding year. Social welfare and health care accounted for 14 per cent of all training. Almost as many, or 12 per cent of the courses were connected with management, leadership skills or organisational training. Ten per cent of studies concerned trade and marketing, and technology and construction. The proportion of foreign language courses was four per cent.
