Statistical analysis on the background of the parties' election success

The instant analysis to be made on the election night will explain the reasons for the victory or loss of the parties in the Municipal elections 2000. The success of the parties is examined by area with the help of different background variables and compared to the results of the previous Municipal elections.

The background variables under study are as follows:

  • Unemployment
  • Business structure
  • Percentage of pensioners among persons entitled to vote
  • Votes cast for the parties: (SDP, the Centre Party of Finland, the National Coalition Party and the Left Alliance)
  • Number of children aged under 7 in total population
  • Degree of urbanisation
  • Income level

The basic analysis package contains information on the whole of the country. In addition, the subscriber can also specify the constituencies, regions, groups of municipalities or municipalities on which the analysis is required. Please note that the area of the selected municipality or group of municipalities must cover at least 50,000 inhabitants and 50 electoral districts.

The first analysis of the election night will be delivered to the subscribers at about 10.00 p.m., when the majority of electoral districts have presumably been counted. The second analysis will be made once the election results have been completed or nearly completed and it will be supplied to the subscribers at about 11.30 p.m. Text analyses will be delivered at 10.30 p.m. and, if necessary, updated at 12 midnight.

Similar analyses have been made for the Parliamentary elections 1999, European Parliament elections 1999 and Presidential election 2000.
