Social Capital in Finland - Statistical Review

The Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) often rank high in international comparisons on the prevalence of trust and social cohesion. Moreover, in a well-known publication by Robert D. Putnam (Bowling Alone, 2000) it was pointed out that one strong predictor of the degree of social capital in different states in the U.S. was the share of its population of Scandinavian origin. So far, only scattered information has been available on social capital in the Nordic countries today. Now, Statistics Finland has published a compilation of findings from a number of sources, providing an overview on social capital in Finland.
