The library information specialists carry out to order information searches from all the material and databases in the use of the library. The assignments may concern information produced by Finland, different countries, Eurostat or international organisations. If the statistical information is not available at the Library of Statistics we try to find out where it can be obtained.
Assignments can be either one-off or continuing assignments. The payments are based on the working time spent on the assignment and the costs from the use of databases and material. We agree beforehand about the mode of delivery and the costs of the assignment on the basis of the list of service charges.
Chargeable assignments are connected to searching of statistical information from different sources or databases or to long time series data. Producers of statistics publish a large amount of information free on the Internet. Finding reliable and timely information often requires a professional information specialist's skills and experience of various information sources.
A chargeable assignment can also be continuous. In that case the publishing of the statistics needed by the customer is followed over some time period. The information is supplied to the customer in the agreed format immediately upon its publication, e.g. monthly. This is an efficient and easy way to monitor one's industry or cost development in Finland or EU countries, for example.

The information specialist agrees the details of the assignment with the customer before it is started. The assignments are binding.
