Concepts, definitions and classifications are key to the compilation of national accounts: as long as we know exactly (rather than just more or less) what is included and what is not, and as long as we know exactly the criteria for a given classification, the data produced will be comparable and usable.
The world around us is in constant flux and motion and the concepts and definitions of the national accounts system also need periodic revision so that the picture drawn of reality is as accurate as possible. The development of the national accounts is an ongoing process of national and international dialogue and exchange.
