In this lesson you will learn about the history of the world's longest regularly collected population statistics. Regular collection and compilation of population statistics was begun in the kingdom of Sweden-Finland as early as 1749. At the time, collection of information was started on the number of population, births, deaths and marriages contracted. Regular publication of population statistics did not start until the 1870s.
The purpose of this lesson is to describe how the content of population statistics has developed alongside the economic and social development of society during the last 250 years.
