Information package about climate change

Statistics Finland has compiled Finland's fifth National Report for the UNFCCC. The Report is an exhaustive and up-to-date information package about Finland's climate policy and its implementation. It describes the development of greenhouse gas emissions in Finland and draws scenarios for them up to the year 2020. The Report presents national policy actions taken to reduce emissions in order to achieve the targets set in the Kyoto Protocol and the EU Climate and Energy Package.

The National Report also elaborates on impacts of the climate change in Finland and our possibilities of adapting to the changing climate. In addition the Report gives an account of how Finland is supporting developing countries to keep the climate change under control and adapt to it, as well as takes an overview of climate research and dissemination of information about the climate change to ordinary people in Finland.

The UNFCCC obliges all its parties to compile a national communication about activities undertaken relating to the climate change. Finland's fifth National Report is based on the latest national long-term climate and energy strategy.

The English-language Report can be downloaded as an electronic pdf file from Statistics Finland's website (Finland's Fifth National Communication under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, pdf). A printed version of the report will come out in early February.

The National Reports of Finland and other industrialised countries can also be accessed via the UNFCCC website.
