Statistics Finland's organisation changes on 1 January 2013

Statistics Finland's organisation will be renewed as of 1 January 2013. In the renewal, in particular activities related to statistics production will be reorganised. The objective of the changes is to rationalise and streamline the production processes of statistics and enable purposeful combining of performance and process management.

An essential change is that collection of data materials needed for statistics production will be centralised to a new Data Collection Department that will start operating at the beginning of the year. Simultaneously, the previous six statistics departments will be reorganised into three departments: Population and Social Statistics, Economic and Environmental Statistics, and Business Statistics. In addition, a Standards and Methods Department will be established; its tasks include development and coordination of statistical production processes, statistical quality and processes.

In connection with the renewal, department director posts have been reorganised and the following directors have been appointed:

  • Data Collection Department: Director Jari Tarkoma
  • Population and Social Statistics Department: Director Riitta Harala
  • Economic and Environmental Statistics Department: Director Leena Storgårds
  • Business Statistics Department: Director Hannele Orjala
  • Standards and Methods Department: Deputy Director General of Statistics Production Hilkka Vihavainen.

No essential changes will take place in the organisations of Administration, Information Technology and Communication and Information Services at the turn of the year.
