Continued growth in total output in May

Total output was up by 2.4 per cent in the year to May. In April output grew by one per cent on the preceding year. After adjustment for seasonal variation, output in May was up by 0.3 per cent from April. This appears from Statistics Finland's monthly indicator of total output.

Apart from agriculture and forestry output increased in all fields of production. In agriculture and forestry output decreased by just under 8 per cent, which was due mainly to the almost 17 per cent decrease in commercial fellings. In May output grew the most in the construction industry, by over 11 per cent. Output in manufacturing increased by almost 5 per cent as calculated per working day. In transport and communications output increased by over 2 per cent and in the wholesale and retail trade by close on 0.5 per cent. In other services and government services output grew by 2 per cent in the year to May.

The monthly indicator of total output is based on eleven monthly series on different sectors of the economy, which are weighted and summed up.
