Continued growth in total output in January

Total output was up by 1.6 per cent in the year to January. In December output grew by 1.7 per cent on the preceding year. After adjustment for seasonal variation, output in January was up by 0.4 per cent from December. There was continued growth in January in all industries with the exception of agriculture and forestry. This appears from Statistics Finland's monthly indicator of total output.

Year-on-year change in total output

Output in manufacturing increased further in January as calculated per working day, but was still only 0.7 per cent up on a year earlier. In agriculture and forestry, instead, output decreased by 3 per cent, which was due mainly to the decrease in cuttings. Output in the construction industry grew by 1.6 per cent, and that in the wholesale and retail trade by close on 6 per cent according to preliminary data. In transport and communications output increased by 2 per cent, as did that in other services and government services.

The monthly indicator of total output is based on eleven monthly series on different sectors of the economy, which are weighted and summed up.
