Number of employed persons higher and that of unemployed persons unchanged in the last quarter of 2022 compared to the year before

According to Statistics Finland's Labour Force Survey, the number of employed persons was 43,000 higher in the fourth quarter of 2022 (October to December) than in the corresponding quarter of 2021. The number of employed women grew clearly, while the number of employed men fell slightly.

The average number of employed persons in the fourth quarter of 2022 (October to December) was 2,621,000, which was 43,000 more than in the corresponding quarter of 2021.

The number of employed persons increased most in manufacturing (C).

The number of hours worked by employed persons was 1,039.8 million hours in the fourth quarter of 2021, which was 1.3 per cent lower than a year ago.

Number of unemployed unchanged, the number of persons in the inactive population decreased

The average number of unemployed persons in the fourth quarter of 2022 was 172,000, which is almost the same as in October to December 2021. The unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2022 was 6.2 per cent, which was 0.1 percentage points lower than a year earlier.

In October to December 2022, the number of persons in the inactive population was 1,329,000, which was 43,000 fewer than a year earlier.
