Turnover in industry grew by 5.3 per cent in January 2023

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in industry (TOL BCD) increased by 5.3 per cent in January 2023 from January 2022. Turnover in industry has been growing continuously since January 2021.

Turnover grew in almost all main industries in January

Adjusted for working days, turnover grew in nearly all main industries in January. Turnover increased most in the food industry, by 16.4 per cent year-on-year. In the forest industry, turnover grew by 7.6 per cent and in the metal industry by 7.3 per cent. Turnover decreased only in the chemical industry and was 8.7 per cent lower than one year earlier.

Export turnover grew in January in several main industries

Export turnover in industry adjusted for working days grew in January in several main industries. Export turnover grew most in the food industry, by 17.0 per cent from one year ago. In the metal industry, export turnover grew by 8.4 per cent and in the forest industry by 2.0 per cent. Export turnover decreased both in the chemical industry, by 23.8 per cent, and in mining and quarrying, by 3.3 per cent from one year ago.

Domestic turnover in industry adjusted for working days grew in January in all main industries. Domestic turnover grew most strongly in the chemical industry, up by 29.4 per cent from the previous year. Domestic turnover in the forest industry increased by 19.0 per cent year-on-year. Domestic turnover grew most moderately in the metal industry, up by 3.6 per cent from the previous year.

Turnover decreased in January from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in industry decreased by 1.9 per cent in January 2023 compared to December. Turnover grew by 0.4 per cent in December, while in November turnover declined by 0.3 per cent from the month before.
