Record high price of electricity in the previous year made a downturn in the first quarter of 2023

According to Statistics Finland, energy prices in 2022 will remain record high in history. The prices of most energy products made a downturn at the latest in the first quarter of 2023. Only the price of forest chippings appeared to continue rising.

  • The consumer prices of liquid fuels were still higher in January to February than one year earlier, but a clear fall was seen in March from the prices of one year ago.
  • The rise in the price of forest chippings accelerated in the first quarter and, on average, 21 per cent more was paid for forest chippings than in the corresponding period one year ago.
  • The price of natural gas continued to fall in the first quarter and in March it was lower in most consumer categories than in March 2022.
  • In the first quarter, the price of electricity fell from the record high level at the end of 2022 but was still clearly higher compared to one year earlier.
