Business Register inquiry for single-establishment enterprises
Description of the data collection
The Business Register inquires yearly data from single-establishment enterprises. The data are collected for maintaining the Business Register. The questionnaire is sent during February. The responses can be submitted on an electronic questionnaire.
From whom are data collected?
The inquiry includes both enterprises and corporations, approximately 9,000 per year. All enterprises and corporations with at least ten wage and salary earners are mainly selected to the inquiry at intervals of around three years. Inquiries are also sent yearly to enterprises involved in mergers and a group of growth enterprises and by random sampling to around 1,500 enterprises for which the correctness of industry and location data are checked.
What are the data used for?
The Business Register includes data on enterprises, establishments and groups operating in Finland. The basic variables are industry (Nace code) and personnel. The data are classified according to industry, region, type of ownership and legal form.
The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential. According to Section 18 of the Statistics Act, certain Business Register data are public. For enterprises and corporations public are data concerning the name and address, Business ID, industry, legal form, number of personnel, size category of turnover and personnel, and for establishments the name, address, industry and size category of personnel. According to the Council Regulation (EEC) No 177/2008 on business registers, Statistics Finland is obliged to maintain a business register for statistical purposes.
