Description

This is an index describing the regular earnings of wage and salary earners. The base year of the index is 2002=100. The index is not influenced by the effects of overtime work or one-off bonuses or remuneration items. The basic data cover approximately two-thirds of the full-time wage and salary earners in Finland. Wage and salary earner groups by industry are weighted together in the index with fixed wage bill weights. The data relating to individual units in the basic data are confidential.

Data content

The index of regular earnings describes average development in the regular earnings of full-time wage and salary earners by sector, industry and wage and salary earner group. Neither taxes nor employee’s social security contributions have been deducted from average earnings. Preliminary index point figures are based on estimated impacts from agreements and drifts. The data of the index on regular earnings are also used for calculating average earnings by employer sector and industry.

Data collection methods and data sources

The index of regular earnings is mainly based on data on earnings collected by employer organisation from their members. Statistics Finland’s own inquiry is also utilised in respect of industries dominated by small enterprises.

Updating frequency

Time of completion or release

Final data on the index of regular earnings are published in approximately six weeks from the end of each quarter. The data become gradually revised in subsequent releases. The indices for each year become final no later than in autumn of the following year.

Data on the index of regular earnings are available starting from 2002.

Additional information

The index on regular earnings 2002=100 is calculated using the data and the method of another index, the index of wage and salary earnings 2000=100 with the difference that performance-based bonuses have been removed from the earnings of monthly paid wage and salary earners.
