Description

The statistics on transit transport describe the flows of goods across the eastern Finnish border, mainly to and from Russia through Finland to other countries. The statistics monitor especially the flows of goods through Finland of the foreign trade of countries east of Finland. The examination focuses on transports on the three main forms of transport by sea, railway and road. Statistics Finland has been commissioned by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to produce transit transport statistics since 1997.

Volumes of transit transports by sea, rail and road and Finland’s eastern and western imports and exports in tonnes by month. Transit transport by port and border station.

Sea transports, rail transports and road transports.

Data collection methods and data sources

Data for the statistics on transit transport are supplied by the statistical service of the Finnish Maritime Administration for sea transports, the VR-Group Ltd. for rail transports, and the Eastern Customs District and the border stations of Nuijamaa and Vaalimaa for road transports.

Updating frequency

Monthly.

Time of completion or release

Statistics on transit transport are published within six weeks from the end of the examined statistical reference months.
