Turnover in service industries increased by 6.0 per cent year-on-year in October to December

According to Statistics Finland, turnover in service industries grew by 6.0 per cent in October to December from the corresponding period of the year before. Most growth was recorded in administrative and support service activities (+10.1%) and accommodation and food service activities (+8.0%). The industry of transportation and storage also grew strongly (+7.2%). Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Administrative and support service activities were boosted most by renting and leasing activities (+18.8%). A strong growth of 16.3 per cent was also achieved in employment activities. Travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service also generated growth for the branch (+10.9%).

In October to December, the good development of both accommodation services (+11.0%) and food service activities (+7.1%) boosted growth in accommodation and food service activities.

In the industry of transportation and storage, warehousing and support activities for transportation reached a growth of 9,0 per cent. Land transport grew by 5.7 per cent, while the development of water transport was clearly weaker than in the rest of transportation (+2.2%).

The turnover of professional, scientific and technical activities (+6.9%) increased almost as strongly as one year previously. Legal and accounting activities and management consulting services (+11.1%) grew strongest in the industry. Other professional, scientific and technical activities also rose steeply from one year back (+10.9%).

Real estate activities (+3.0%) and the main industry of other service activities (+3,1%) developed slowest of service industries. Growth in the industry of other service activities was slowed down by the 3.8 per cent drop in the turnover of repair of computers and personal and household goods.

Turnover in service industries will adopt base year 2015=100 from the January 2018 data. Data using the new base year will be published for the first time on 12 April 2018.
