Number of building permits granted for dwellings went up in September

In September, building permits were granted for good 3,200 new dwellings, which is over 60 per cent more than one year earlier. Almost one-half of the dwellings which received building permits were located in the Capital Region.

Permits granted for the construction of new buildings covered a total of approximately 3.6 million cubic metres, which is five per cent less than in last year’s September.

In January to September 2009, new building permits were granted for a total of 29 million cubic metres, which is one-quarter less than in the corresponding period last year. Cubic volumes decreased for all building types apart from agricultural buildings. Building permits were granted for around 18,500 new dwellings, which is 16 per cent less than in the January to September period of 2008.
