According to preliminary data, inflation in the EMU countries 2.5 per cent in October

According to the preliminary data on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, the rate of inflation in the member states of the EMU was 2.5 per cent in October. In September, it stood at 2.6 per cent. The corresponding figure for Finland in October was 0.8 per cent.

Eurostat's estimate on inflation in the EMU area is based on preliminary data published by certain member states and on the price development of energy. Eurostat will publish detailed data on the Harmonised Indices of Consumer Prices for October on 16 November.

Review of Consumer Price Index at the turn of the year

The commodity basket and weight structure of Finland's national Consumer Price Index will be reviewed to correspond with the structure of consumption in 2005. The first revised index, Consumer Price Index 2005=100, will be published for January 2006 on 17 February. Eurostat is also planning to introduce 2005 as the new base year for its Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices as of the beginning of 2006.
