Statistics Finland collects annually establishment data from enterprises for the compilation of regional and industrial statistics. The data are also used for national accounts and other economic statistics.
Mining and quarrying, basic industry as well as energy and water supply are included in industry. The obligation to provide data is based on the Statistics Act (280/2004). The European Union's regulations also require the collection of the data in question. (Council Regulation No 295/2008 concerning structural business statistics and Regulation (EC) No 2223/96 on the European system of national and regional accounts in the Community).The data can be transmitted either electronically or on paper forms.The inquiry for establishments covers mainly all industrial establishments of multi-establishment enterprises employing at least 20 persons. In certain cases industrial establishments of smaller enterprises than that are included in the inquiry. The inquiry also involves municipalities' industrial units.
By law, the data collected for statistical purposes are to be kept confidential.
