Elected Finnish Members of European Parliament in European Parliament elections 1999

Heidi Hautala

Hautala Heidi (Greens) was re-elected to the European Parliament with the largest number of votes cast. She received 115,502 votes, or 9.3 per cent of all votes cast. More than half of her votes came from Helsinki and Uusimaa, 33,037 from Helsinki and 26,937 from Uusimaa. Her support was weakest in North Karelia.

Marjo Matikainen-Kallström

Matikainen-Kallström Marjo (Coalition Party) was re-elected to the European Parliament with the second largest number of votes. She received 107,444 votes, or 8.6 per cent of all votes cast. In Uusimaa she received 26,157 votes and in Helsinki 16,613 votes. She was also well supported in the other constituencies.

Astrid Thors

Thors Astrid (Swedish People's Party) was re-elected with the third largest number of votes. She received 81,092 votes, or 6.5 per cent of all votes cast, and was elected as the Swedish People's Party's sole representative. She received 26,897 votes from Uusimaa, 25,752 votes from Vaasa and 15,523 votes from Helsinki. Thors was also supported in Åland with a total of 2,951 votes.

Reino Paasilinna

Paasilinna Reino (Social Democrats) was re-elected to the European Parliament with fourth largest number of votes. He received 64,204 votes or 5.2 per cent of all votes cast. Of the Social Democrat candidates, he received the largest number of votes. His support centred in southern Finland. In Uusimaa he was supported with 14,621 votes and in Helsinki with 12,476 votes.

Paavo Väyrynen

Väyrynen Paavo (Centre Party) was re-elected with the fifth largest number of votes. He received 64,009 votes, or 5.2 per cent of all votes cast. Of the Centre Party candidates, he received the largest number of votes. In this election, Väyrynen was clearly a candidate for northern Finland. He received 11,807 votes, in other words 18.4 per cent of all votes, in Lapland and 10,036 votes, or 15.7 per cent of all votes, in Oulu. In Helsinki, re received 4.3 per cent and in Kymi constituency 3.7 per cent of all votes.

Esko Seppänen

Seppänen Esko (Left Wing Alliance) was re-elected to the European Parliament with sixth largest number of votes. He received 59,954 votes, or 4.8 per cent of all votes cast, and became his party's first representative in the European Parliament. He received 8,961 votes in Uusimaa and 7,527 votes in Helsinki.

Ari Vatanen

Vatanen Ari (Coalition Part) was elected with the seventh largest number of votes. He received 58,836 votes, or 4.7 per cent of all votes cast. Of the Coalition Party candidates, he received the second largest number of votes. From Uusimaa he received 12,923 votes and from Helsinki 8,493 votes. He was supported across the country and only received less than 1,000 votes in Lapland.

Kyösti Virrankoski

Virrankoski Kyösti (Centre Party) was re-elected with the eighth largest number of votes. He received 50,075 votes, or 4 per cent of all votes cast. He was elected as the Centre Party representative with the second largest number of votes. Virrankoski was a one-constituency candidate. He received 33,919 votes, or 67.7 per cent all his votes, in Vaasa constituency.

Riita Myller

Myller Riitta (Social Democrat) was re-elected to the European Parliament with the ninth largest number of votes. She received 47,939 votes, or 3.9 per cent of all votes cast. She became the Social Democrats' second Euro MP. She received strongest support in North Karelia constituency from where she got 12,998 votes.

Ilkka Suominen

Suominen Ilkka (Coalition Party) was elected with the tenth largest number of votes cast. He received 38,364 votes, or 3.1 per cent of all votes cast. Of the Coalition candidates, he received the third largest number of votes. In Helsinki constituency he received 8,034 votes and in Uusimaa constituency 7,668 votes. Votes cast for him numbered under one thousand in the constituencies of Vaasa, North Karelia and Lapland.

Eija-Riita Korhola

Korhola Eija-Riitta (Christian League) got elected with the twelfth largest number of votes cast. She received 28,095 votes, or 2.3 per cent of all votes cast and became elected as the sole MEP of the Christian League. She received support across the country. From Helsinki constituency she received 4,252 votes and from Uusimaa constituency 4,379 votes. Lapland was her weak area.

Matti Wuori

Wuori Matti (Greens) was elected with the thirteenth largest number of votes. He received 26,846 votes, or 2.2 per cent of all votes cast. He became elected as the Greens' second MEP. His support centred in Helsinki and Uusimaa, from where he received 9,082 votes and 6,339 votes, respectively.

Samuli Pohjamo

Pohjamo Samuli (Centre Party) was elected with the fourteenth largest number of votes of 25,333, or 2.0 per cent of all votes cast. He became the Centre Party's third representative in the European Parliament. He received almost all his votes from Oulu constituency.

Mikko Pesälä

Pesälä Mikko (Centre Party) was elected with the fifteenth largest number of votes. He received 24,281 votes, or 2.0 per cent of all votes cast. He was elected as the Centre Party's fourth MEP. He received 9,191 votes, or nearly 40 per cent of his votes, from Kymi constituency. From Uusimaa he received 2,920 votes and from Häme 2,664 votes.

Ulpu Iivari

Iivari Ulpu (Social Democrats) was elected with the sixteenth largest number of votes. She received 24,091 votes, or 1.9 per cent of all votes cast, and was elected as the Social Democrats' third representative. She received the majority of her votes from southern Finland. In Helsinki she was supported with 6,147 votes and in Uusimaa with 5,904 votes.

Piia-Noora Kauppi

Kauppi Piia-Noora (Coalition Party) was elected with the seventeenth largest number of votes. She received 18,221 votes, or 1.5 per cent of all votes cast and became elected as the coalition Party's fourth representative in the European Parliament. She was supported by voters in the Capital Region, and Helsinki, from where she received 3,731 votes, as well as Oulu where her total number of votes was 4,638.
