According to Statistics Finland, age-standardised mortality increased by 1.4 per cent in 2021 from the year before. The growth in mortality was mostly due to increased mortality from dementia, Alzheimer's disease and the coronavirus disease. By contrast, mortality from diseases of the circulatory system, neoplasms and alcohol-related causes decreased from the year before. A total of 952 persons died of the coronavirus disease, which is nearly two per cent of deaths.
