According to Statistics Finland, the production of electricity in Finland amounted to 69.3 TWh in 2021, which was four per cent more than in the year before. Fossil-free electricity production, renewable energy sources and nuclear energy covered record 86 per cent of electricity production. The share of renewable energy sources in Finland's electricity production was over one half: 53 per cent. The share of renewable energy sources in electricity production continued to rise. The amount of electricity produced with fossil fuels and peat increased by three per cent from the year before. The production of district heat rose considerably from the previous year (by 16 %) due to the cold winter.
