Description

The statistics present information about total consumption of energy, electricity production and total consumption and imports and exports of energy

Data content

Total consumption of energy in Finland is given by fuel and energy source. Supply of electricity is described by production mode. Export and import data of energy products are given by country based on the National Board of Customs’ Foreign Trade Statistics.

Data collection methods and data sources

Part of the data are based on Statistics Finland's own data collection from different enterprises. Other data sources include the Finnish Energy Industries, Energy Market Authority, Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland, Association of Finnish Peat Industries, National Board of Customs’ Foreign Trade Statistics, and Finnish Oil and Gas Federation.

Updating frequency

Preliminary data on energy consumption and supply are published quarterly: in March, June, September and December.

Final data on energy consumption and supply are published yearly in December.

Time of completion or release

Preliminary data on energy consumption and supply are complete and published 2.5 months after the end of each quarter: in June, September, December and March. Final data for the year are published 11 months after the end of the statistical reference year.

Time series

Statistics Finland has released data since the second quarter of 2005. Data prior to this have been based on statistics compiled by the Ministry of Trade and Commerce and data have been published in the statistical appendix of the Energy Review.
