Wage and salary earners' earnings almost stopped growing

According to Statistics Finlands preliminary data, the nominal earnings of wage and salary earners rose by 0.5 per cent in the private sector during the second quarter of 2017. In the central government sector and the local government sector, the nominal earnings of wage and salary earners decreased. The drop in the public sector was caused by the cut in holiday bonuses agreed on in the Competitiveness Pact. On average, the nominal earnings of wage and salary earners rose by 0.1 per cent during the second quarter of 2017 when compared to the respective period in 2016. Real earnings fell by 0.7 per cent compared to the second quarter of the previous year.

Description: This is an index measuring development in wage and salary earners’ earnings for regular working hours. The base year of the index is 2010=100. The index is not influenced by the effects of overtime work or one-off bonuses or remuneration items.
