Producer Price Indices in January 2009
Producer prices for manufactured products fell by 3.7 per cent, export prices by 6.2 per cent and import prices by 4.7 per cent from January 2008 to January 2009. The basic price index for domestic supply fell by 2.2 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in the wholesale price index was -2.9 per cent.
The fall in the producer prices for manufactured products was particularly caused by reductions in the prices of oil products and non-ferrous metals from January 2008. The fall in the prices was curbed by increases in the prices of food and electricity.
From December 2008 to January 2009, producer prices for manufactured products fell by 1.5 per cent. The fall in the prices was especially due to reductions in the prices of basic chemicals.

Producer price indices have been revised and their base years have been changed to 2005. The weight structures of the producer price indices have been revised, the enterprise and commodity samples have been updated and the volume of price data has been increased considerably. The revised standard industrial classification, TOL 2008, was also introduced in connection with the periodic review. For more information, see "Revisions in these statistics".
