Producer Price Indices in April 2009
Producer prices for manufactured products fell by 7.0 per cent, export prices by 9.6 per cent and import prices by 8.9 per cent from April 2008 to April 2009. The basic price index for domestic supply fell by 5.9 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in the wholesale price index was -6.9 per cent.
The fall in the producer prices for manufactured products was caused, among other things, by reductions in the prices of oil products and non-ferrous metals, especially copper, from April 2008. The fall in the prices was curbed by risen price of electricity.
From March to April, producer prices for manufactured goods fell by 0.2 per cent. The fall in the prices was especially due to reductions in the prices of electronic products. The fall in the prices was curbed by risen price of copper.
