Turnover in manufacturing contracted by just under 2 per cent in July to September from the year before
According to Statistics Finland, turnover in manufacturing in the July to September period was 1.8 per cent lower than in the corresponding period of the year before. Domestic sales contracted by 3.6 per cent and export turnover by 0.3 per cent from one year ago.

Turnover went down from the corresponding period of the previous year in nearly all sub-industries. The declines were steepest in the textile, clothing and leather industry (-7.6%), in the forest industry (-6.8%) and in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (-6.5%). The smallest contractions were recorded in mining and quarrying (-0.1%). The growth was most favourable in the chemical industry (3.1%) and in the food industry (2.0%).
The index of turnover in industry describes enterprises whose main industry is manufacturing. The calculation of the indices is based on the Tax Administration’s value added tax data which are supplemented with data obtained with Statistics Finland’s sales inquiry. The monthly turnovers of manufacturing enterprises can vary considerably, especially in the metal industries. The variation is mainly due to invoicing practices. The final invoice for major machinery deliveries and projects may be recorded in the sales of one month, even if the delivery had required the work of several months or years.
The indices of turnover will adopt base year 2010=100 from the January 2013 data. Data using the new base year will be published for the first time on 15 April 2013.
