According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, industrial output grew in several main industries in July 2007 when compared with the previous year. Output in manufacturing was 1.4 per cent up from the year before. The highest growth was recorded in other manufacturing, chemical industry as well as manufacture of electronic and electrical products. However, total industrial output was 0.5 per cent lower in July than in the year before, because output in energy supply contracted by a good 10 per cent. Peat production contracted by slightly less than 80 per cent as a result of the rainy July.
These data derive from the volume index of industrial output, which describes the development in the volume of the industrial output of the largest establishments located in Finland. The preliminary data are based on a sample comprised of roughly 1,000 of the largest establishments within their respective industries.
According to Statistics Finland, seasonally adjusted industrial output was 0.6 per cent higher in July 2007 than in June.
Revised data for July will be published at 9 am on 28 September 2007 in connection with the release of industrial output data for August. Because of the method used, seasonally adjusted figures for previous months may change even if the original figures do not become revised. The seasonally adjusted figures will also be adjusted for working days.
Statistics Finland's preliminary volume index of industrial output describes the total volume of commodities produced for export or for the domestic market by industrial establishments operating in Finland. The preliminary data described by the volume index have in recent years been revised upwards by 1-3 per cent in the final data.
