Industrial output grew by 17.3 per cent from previous year in November

According to Statistics Finland, Finnish industrial output as calculated per working day went up by 17.3 per cent in the year to November. In the January to November period, output increased by 11.4 per cent from the same period twelve months back. Since May 2000, industrial output has been growing at double-digit percentages. In the past few months, industrial output has been growing at a noticeably faster rate in Finland than in the other countries of the European Union.

Output in the metal industry rose by good 36 per cent in the year to November. Several main branches of the metal industry increased their output. In the manufacture of electrical equipment, which has been the driving force behind the prolonged growth, output increased by as much as good 60 per cent. The manufacture of metal products increased by close on 28 per cent and the manufacture of machinery and equipment by good 11 per cent.

Output grew by good 3 per cent in the wood and paper industry and by nearly 5 per cent in the chemical industry in November. In other manufacturing output increased by good 5 per cent. In energy production output fell by just short of one per cent in November.

Capacity utilisation rate in manufacturing was good 90 per cent in November. In the pulp and paper industry, capacity utilisation rate was good 97 per cent, in the metal industry 94 per cent and in the chemical industry good 80. In other manufacturing capacity utilisation rate reached nearly 82 per cent.
