Total output grew by 5.2 per cent in January

The volume of total output was 5.2 per cent greater in January 2001 than in January 2000. In December 2000, output grew by 3.2 per cent from the previous year. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that output went up in all main industries of the national economy in January.

Output in manufacturing grew by 7 per cent. Calculated per working day, output in January increased by 19 per cent in the manufacture of electrical goods, but contracted by just short of 4 per cent in the wood and paper industry.

In both trade and construction output increased by 2 per cent from the previous year. In agriculture and forestry, output increased by 7 per cent due to increases in fellings and meat production. In the transport industry output grew by 8 per cent. In other services and public services output went up by just short of 3 per cent from January 2000.

The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on twelve monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
