Industrial output grew by 7.1 per cent from previous year in February

According to Statistics Finland, Finnish industrial output as calculated per working day went up by 7.1 per cent in the year to February.

Output in the metal industry increased by good 13 per cent in the year to February. Within the metal industry, output in the manufacture of electrical equipment grew by good 23 per cent. In the rest of the metal industry, output went up by just short of 3 per cent.

In the wood and paper industry output fell by just under one per cent in February. In the chemical industry output grew by good one per cent and in other manufacturing by good 2 per cent. Output of energy increased by just short of 12 per cent in the year to February.

Capacity utilisation rate in manufacturing was good 85 per cent in February. In the pulp and paper industry, capacity utilisation rate was just under 91 per cent, in the metal industry good 90 per cent and in the chemical industry good 77 per cent. Capacity utilisation rate in other manufacturing was 76 per cent.

These preliminary data are based on information available to Statistics Finland on 29 March. A revised growth percentage of industrial output as well as data by industry for February will be published on the Internet in the StatFin statistical service on 12 April 2001 at 7 a.m.
