Rapid growth in total output continued in January

Total output increased by 5.7 per cent in the year to January. After adjustment for seasonal variation, output in January was up by 0.4 per cent from December. In December output increased by 6.2 per cent on the preceding year. Output grew in January in all branches of industry. This appears from Statistics Finland's monthly indicator of total output.

Output in agriculture and forestry grew by 4.5 per cent in the year to January. Output in manufacturing was up by 7.5 per cent on the year before as calculated per working day. Output in the construction industry increased by 13.5 per cent and that in the wholesale and retail trade by 3.5 per cent. Output in transport and communications was up by over 10 per cent and that in other services as well as in government services by 2.5 per cent.

The monthly indicator of total output is based on eleven monthly series on different sectors of the economy, which are weighted and summed up.
