Continued growth in total output in May

Total output was up by 5 per cent in the year to May. After adjustment for seasonal variation, output in May was up by 0.4 per cent from April. In April output grew by 8 per cent compared to the year before, as indicated by the Monthly Indicator of Total Output compiled by Statistics Finland.

In agriculture and forestry output fell by 1.2 per cent as a result of fewer commercial fellings. Output in manufacturing as calculated per working day grew by over 6 per cent. In the construction industry output was still brisk, increasing by 14.5 per cent. In trade and commerce output rose by almost 3 per cent and in transport by 7 per cent. In the rest of services and government services output increased by 2.5 per cent.

The monthly indicator of total output is based on eleven monthly series on different sectors of the economy, which are weighted and summed up.
