Import prices up nearly oneandahalf per cent

Import prices rose by 1.4 per cent from June to July, the increase being attributable mainly to the rise in price of crude oil, but also to that in basic metals, basic chemicals, oil products, vehicles and printed products. In the year to July, import prices have risen oneandahalf per cent. This information can be gathered from the Import Price Index of Statistics Finland.

Export prices rose by 0.8 per cent from June to July, owing to the rise in price of chemical pulp, basic metals, machinery and equipment, and timber. Export prices are, however, still two per cent lower than in July 1996.

Wholesale prices rose by 0.6 per cent from June to July, due to the higher prices of raw materials and capital goods. The wholesale prices have risen two per cent since July 1996: those of domestic goods 2.3 per cent and of imported goods 1.4 per cent.

The producer prices of manufactured goods showed an increase of 0.4 per cent from June to July. This was due to the higher prices of chemical pulp, timber and basic metals. Producer prices rose 1.1 per cent in the year to July.
